This paper examines recent developments in user authentication technologies, emphasizing innovations such as passwordless authentication (e.g., FID02 and biometrics), adaptive multi-factor authentication (MFA) and behavioral biometrics. These solutions seek to address ongoing problems such as password vulnerabilities, phishing attacks, user MFA resistance, and the security intricacies of distributed workforces. By resolving these difficulties, newer authentication methods improve security while maintaining user comfort. The future of authentication will depend on zero-trust frameworks, AI -driven anomaly detection, quantum-resistant cryptography, IoT integration, and universal interoperability. Collectively, these innovations are cultivating a secure and user-centric environment for authentication technology.
