Forensic Analysis of AI Applications - A Replika “AI Companion” Example

Many applications now incorporate or make use of AI models to some degree, making them AI-dependent or AI-supported. This paper provides an analysis of the app Replika, which provides an AI companion to users. The AI capabilities are hosted remotely and are not accessible for analysis, but this research shows the results of analysing the local app on iOS that interacts with the server-side AI-system and finds that effective analysis is possible, without necessarily needing to analyse the AI model itself.
