Boosting Serverless Computing: A Survey on Architecture Designs and Accelerator Support for Serverless Platforms

Over the past decade, serverless computing has emerged as a novel cloud execution model, enabling developers to build event-driven applications without managing the underlying infrastructure. Serverless computing has the potential to revolutionize distributed high-performance computing applications. However, it presents significant challenges in selecting suitable execution environments and supporting accelerators. This paper reviews current research on accelerator support and execution environments in serverless computing, highlighting research directions and future opportunities for researchers and industry practitioners.
