Redis is very popular and highly used in a cloud-based application that needs a fast data access layer. Redis is a battle-tested and scalable application cache memory database. This paper discusses the performance of Redis, a cache memory database, on different operating systems and file systems. The study aims to identify research challenges and opportunities by testing Redis on Windows and Ubuntu, as well as on the ext4 and XFS file systems. The research examines the efficiency of Redis using a matrix of throughput and latency, finding that Redis performs better on Ubuntu than on Windows, and XFS demonstrates superior performance compared to ext4 on both platforms. The study explores the reasons for these differences in performance, focusing on aspects such as Redis support, memory handling, file management, and task coordination. The findings provide practical ways to improve Redis performance on Windows and Ubuntu, including recommendations such as turning on TCP keep alive, using pipelining, and improving memory usage. The research aims to provide valuable and practical information on how to enhance Redis performance in various scenarios.
