Cultivating Data Analyst Skills and Mindfulness in Higher Education

초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate how to design courses to cultivate students’ ability and mindfulness of data analytics to meet most industry needs of data analysts. This study argues that data analytics skills may be important to a data analyst, however, it is analytical mindfulness that makes data analysts valuable and different. This study characterizes the major skills and ability a data analyst needs; conceptualize analytical mindfulness and develop its measurement; explore the relationship between data analytics courses and data analyst skills and mindfulness. This study explores the relationship between data analyst skills, analytical mindfulness, and course design. A series of research propositions are presented to build knowledge in the design of data analytics curricula. The results provide guidance and information regarding the implementation of data analytics courses in higher education. The work also shed light on better differentiating job roles related to data analytics, which could guide companies that recruit the specialists by better defining skill requirements.
