초록

This paper presents a MongoDB database design methodology rooted in conceptual modeling. Given a query against a MongoDB database, the design methodology determines a set of hierarchical data storage configurations, also known elsewhere as scheme trees, from a conceptual model of the database such that the retrieval time of the query can be minimized or reduced. Scheme trees present a logical design for a MongoDB database that will eventually be implemented as MongoDB collections in the database. In turn, the MongoDB collections determine the data layout in the database. Therefore, the design methodology determines the data layout that shortens the query’s retrieval time. To empirically substantiate the design methodology, the COVID-19 data set was downloaded as an example application.
