Smart Checkpoint Management System for Automatic Number Plate Recognition in Bhutan Vehicles Using OCR Technique

초록

Smart Checkpoint Management System (SCMS) is an automated system that processes and stores travelers’ information and track travel history in real time. In this paper, an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) is used in the smart checkpoint management system for Bhutanese vehicles. ANPR is a technique which uses optical character recognition (OCR) to extracts alphanumeric characters from the vehicle’s number plate. This technique is used in many areas such as in traffic monitoring, parking toll collection, detecting speeding vehicles, etc. The system mainly consists of acquisition of image, image preprocessing, number plate detection, cropping, and character recognition. A database is created to register travelers’ and vehicle details. For the comparison purpose, easyocr is compared with pytesseract OCR on Bhutan vehicle-plate in which both OCRs has shown similar level of accuracy.
