Digitalization advances in different sectors of society and organizations. More and more different tasks in the office and industry are supported by specialized computing programs and devices. Software and hardware technologies related to concurrent and distributed computing systems have integrated into information systems to increase organizations’ productivity. New distributed architectures can be developed using different computational tools to create collaborative work environments. The electrical design and engineering of a power system can involve experts from different areas. Tasks such as short-circuit studies or load flow studies can be developed by experts located at different sites. This paper proposes a distributed and heterogeneous architecture for distributed collaboration between designers and engineers during the modelling and designing of electrical power systems. Our proposed architecture integrates different technologies related to multi-database, distributed computing and web-based applications.
