In recent years, increasingly restrictive emissions regulations have driven the demand for sustainable aviation, leading to the development of electric propulsion systems – particularly high-power-density electrical machines – as one of the promising alternative solutions to traditional gas turbine engines, particularly high-power-density electrical machines. Applying High-Temperature Superconductors (HTS) to electrical machines is considered promising due to their high current density and negligible energy losses, enabling the creation of compact and power-dens machines that are viable for aviation applications. This work presents a preliminary study for the drive control of a multiphase axial-flux superconducting machine with an HTS disc rotor made of rare-earth barium copper oxide (REBCO) tapes, providing a presentation of the control architecture and simulation of the inverter. The double-stator is made of conventional windings, generating magnetic poles that can be changed electronically. Furthermore, multiphase machines are more fault-tolerant compared to traditional three-phase machines, making them more reliable for electric aviation.
