Helmets are a crucial, protective headgear for two-wheeler drivers due to their role in ensuring safety as well as reducing the impact and severity of injuries in case of an accident. This manuscript details a novel three-level Internet of Things (IoT)- based smart helmet design to enable rider safety and data-driven insights for two-wheeler riders plying on Indian roads. The comprehensive smart helmet incorporates three distinct levels of functionality namely impact detection, biometric monitoring, and environmental assessment. In case of an accident, the helmet’s integrated communication structure transmits detailed accident data, including GPS coordinates and rider biometrics, to emergency services, enabling prompt medical intervention. The proposed helmet is also one of the first to also collect comprehensive digital value metrics, to calculate the hit ratio. The proposed helmet can serve as an effective solution to ensure a seamless, safe driving experience to two-wheeler drivers while also delivering advanced functionalities.
