File system performance comparison in the case of Docker container-based virtualization with Volumes and Bind mounts

The goal of this paper is to compare the file system performance of physical operating system and Docker as container-based virtualization using its mechanism for persisting data with Volumes and Bind mounts. The importance of virtualization and its popularity with container-based virtualization is mentioned with an emphasis on OS-type virtualization. In addition, this article contains a detailed description of the Dockers mechanism for persistent data, its operating mode and the difference between Volumes and Bind mounts. The main purpose of this paper is the comparison of Docker Volumes and Bind Mounts file system performance. Thus, we have selected FileBench, one of the best open-source benchmarks for testing file system capabilities.
