Performance of Config-as-Code Git Repositories

Configuration-as-Code approach for managing cloud infrastructure configuration has been emerging recently. Therefore, applying this approach for managing telecommunication networks is also attracting attention within the industry. This approach is more prevalent in managing softwarized network functions, meaning that not only the development and deployment of network functions apply best software practices, but the operation and configuration of those also. However, due to the large number of managed devices and software functions in a network and their specific configuration structures, it typically requires huge number of configuration files to be managed. In this paper the applicability of Git for storing, managing and editing configurations in such a telco use case is evaluated. Based on measurements, practical limitations in Git operations are analysed.
