An Efficient Framework for Integrating DevOps Practices in Network Configuration and Monitoring

Through a systematic review of existing DevOps and Networking literature, this research provides a comprehensive reference architecture, including configuration and monitoring elements. Notably, our contribution involved executing an experiment aimed at understanding the potential impact of this architecture on network downtime reduction. In analyzing the unique challenges, the networking industry faces when implementing DevOps practices, we distilled these issues into an overview, intended to increase understanding and facilitate solutions.One of our primary achievements is the development and demonstration of a novel approach to implement DevOps. It innovatively utilizes a skeletal test environment, prioritizing continuous monitoring via observability and SDN controllers. By focusing on risk mitigation and ensuring optimal rollbacks, when necessary, we have helped to dramatically decrease the resources needed for these operations. This work anticipates easing the adoption of DevOps practices in the networking industry, thus paving the way for enhanced efficiency and productivity.
