With the intensification of global environmental issues, pro-environmental behavior has become a key strategy for achieving sustainable development. This study employs CiteSpace, a visualization analysis tool, to systematically compare Chinese and international research on pro-environmental behavior from 2014 to 2024. The findings reveal significant differences between China and the international community in terms of publication trends, research hotspots, and clustering. Chinese research closely aligns with national policies, focusing on green consumption, ecological civilization, and the interaction between psychology and behavior, emphasizing policy guidance and collective action. In contrast, international research is more event-driven, focusing on green consumption, carbon emissions, economic growth, and the deepening of behavioral theories, highlighting the role of market mechanisms and technological innovation. China has developed a green development paradigm driven by consumption, while international research centers on economic instrument innovation and the deepening of behavioral theories. These differences reflect the distinct regional research contexts: China tends to focus on policy guidance and collective action, while the international community emphasizes market economies and technological innovation. By leveraging quantitative knowledge maps, this study overcomes the subjective limitations of traditional reviews, providing a theoretical basis for cross-cultural environmental governance strategies and offering new perspectives for the integration and practical transformation of pro-environmental behavior theories.
