Adaptive Droop Control Method for Bidirectional Modular Grid-Side Converter

Typically, multiple converters are configured modularly rather than as a single converter in applications that handle high power, and a control strategy for the effective operation of modular converters is needed. This study proposes an adaptive droop control method that can be applied when the grid-side converters (GSCs) in the microgrid have an input-parallel output-parallel (IPOP) modular configuration. The proposed control method can effectively eliminate the trade-off between power sharing and voltage regulation, one of the main disadvantages of conventional droop control. The validity of the proposed method was verified through a hardware prototype experiment in which two 1kW T-type 3-level converters capable of bidirectional operation were connected in parallel.
