Efforts to Improve Business Agility in Enterprise Agile Methodology

The rapid evolution of information technology has ushered in an era of 'digital disruption', where new digital companies are using information technology to enter new business markets and creatively disrupt old ones. As a result, existing companies are being forced to exit the market. One of the challenges for companies is how to drive new value creation using digital technologies, which is referred to as digital transformation (Hereafter referred to as DX). One approach to continuously drive value creation through IT is called Enterprise Agile method. In Japan, apart from a few advanced companies, many companies have not introduced DX and the Enterprise Agile methodology has not been established. Therefore, from the perspective of improving business agility in DX-supported organizations, we conducted a case study of an IT company that has introduced Agile in its organizational activities. In that case study company, the obstacle to accelerating business agility using the Enterprise Agile methodology was the lack of continuous and smooth feedback to management and rapid reflection on management intentions and IT development. This paper discusses that extending the backlog operations of the product backlog, which represents the value provided to users and customers, and the sprint backlog, which represents the development work plan, to a mechanism linked to management intent is an effective solution to the problem.
