The Agile and User Experience (UX) integration offer synergies, as both disciplines focus on user needs to create successful products. However, their integration remains challenging due to fundamental differences, such as short Agile cycles versus long-term user research. Open issues, including the communication and prioritization of UX activities, still require effective solutions. These unresolved Agile and UX integration challenges have been assigned to three trend categories in the past: “Process & Practice”, “People & Social” and “Technology & Artifact”. However, these trend categories are no longer sufficient in view of the evolving research field. A review of Agile UX integration challenges in this study showed that the challenges can no longer be clearly categorized into the three trend categories. There is a need for adaptation of the categories to enable a more precise entry point to the research field. To this end, this article introduces six newly derived trend subcategories, which reflect the complexity of the Agile UX integration more precisely: “Communication”, “Collaboration”, “User Involvement”, “Guidelines”, “Capacities” and “Practice, Artifact & Technology”. These trend subcategories can enable practitioners to identify areas for action and derive suitable solutions more quickly. The assignment of the derives trend subcategories to the original trend categories can also provide researchers with indications of research gaps and a basis for future studies.
