As the file system that must be mounted before the operating system starts, the root file system (rootfs) is crucial to ensure the normal running of the operating system and is closely related to application security. However, the current generation method of rootfs is very complicated. At present, only manual generation and semi-automatic generation of rootfs are implemented in some operating systems. But there are some operating systems which do not even have the corresponding generating mode of it. Therefore, how to generate rootfs efficiently has become an urgent problem to be solved. In this paper, to reduce the complexity of the existing rootfs generating method and to generate rootfs that especially matches the OpenEuler operating system, we create an innovative fully automated generation mechanism for rootfs under the Linux operating system. By constructing a generic automatic generation template of rootfs, we realize the fully automatic generation of rootfs in the OpenEuler operating system and further extend it to other Linux operating systems, realizing the transformation of generating rootfs from semi-automatic to full-automatic. This mechanism greatly improves the efficiency of users in testing, developing, and deploying the rootfs of the operating system, at the same time effectively reduces the compatibility issues when it is deployed on different platforms. Currently, this generation mechanism has been adopted and put into use by the OpenEuler community. It not only provides technical support for the development of the OpenEuler operating system, but also provides a new solution for rootfs generation of other Linux operating systems. Hence, it has great practical value and application prospects.
