In today’s business landscape, organizations are increasingly turning to information technology tools, especially software, to improve the efficiency of their business processes. This has put immense pressure on software companies to deliver high-quality products faster. This growing reliance on software has added pressure on software development companies to deliver high-quality products in shorter timeframes. As a result, many companies are willing to embrace DevOps - a promising new approach to software development and IT operations that emphasizes collaboration, automation, and efficiency. While DevOps has gained popularity worldwide, successfully adopting DevOps practices can pose unique challenges depending on the organization’s environment, including its region. DevOps has become critical for Sri Lankan IT firms looking to enhance their software development and delivery capabilities. This research investigates the challenges affecting the successful adoption of DevOps practices in Sri Lanka through a two-pronged approach - by performing a literature review and distributing a questionnaire to industry professionals. This study seeks to assist the Sri Lankan software industry and future researchers in ensuring effective DevOps implementation by identifying the significant obstacles and recommended strategies. The results uncover software firms’ key difficulties when adopting DevOps and their methods for conquering those obstacles. These findings will help guide the Sri Lankan software development industry in devising appropriate strategies and best practices to facilitate smooth and successful DevOps adoption.
