Performance and Design Analysis of Visible Light Communication Systems Amidst Optical Background Noise Utilizing Filtering Techniques

With the swift progress in Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), Visible Light Communication (VLC) has attracted considerable research interest in recent years. This study explores indoor VLC utilizing the Optisystem simulation tool to analyze the channel characteristics of an NRZ OOK VLC system. The system, employing a white LED with a wavelength of 450 nm and a photodetector, is designed and simulated. The presence of light noise in the environment, especially by the means of fluorescent lights using traditional ballasts, presents a serious problem for system performance. Ambient noise is reduced by placing a rectangular optical filter following the photodiode at the receiver, leading to improved Bit Error Rate (BER) and the attainment of a clear eye diagram.
