Critical Infrastructure is the most vital component in a nation's stability and economic progress. Protecting the critical infrastructure assets from cyber-attacks is paramount because it directly affects public safety, day to day functioning and national security. Cybersecurity of critical infrastructure assets is also essential as it can have a cascading effect on other sectors as well. The internet is a resource that is essential in the digital age for enhancing operations in workplaces and leads to innovation, effectiveness, and efficiency. However, these features are often overshadowed by the threats that are associated with use of the internet in industrial installations. This paper analyzes cybersecurity risks posed by internet usage within organizations in context of nation's critical information infrastructure. The key aim is to protect against cyber threats while at the same time addressing regulations and technological landscape. The paper analyses the aspect of traditional Information Technology (IT) vis-à-vis Industrial Control System (ICS) or the Operational Technology (OT) security which is the main concern for critical infrastructure sector. It also delves into the causes for the cybersecurity risks for this sector and suggests some measures to ensure a safer internet use at such installations.
