초록

Flying base station based on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) provides wireless connectivity to users and utilizes its mobility to enable greater communication rate, lower latency, and line-of-sight communications. The security threat of misplacing a flying base station can disrupt its connectivity provision. The denial-of-service (DoS) threat wastes power and drains the battery energy of the base station by requiring greater transmission power, the movement to correct its misplacement, and more frequent re-charging to replenish the battery energy. We analyze the misplacement DoS threat impacts in theory and prototype-based simulations. In our prototype-based simulations, the misplacement threat can drain the battery energy 36.44 times quicker than during normal operations. We intend to motivate further research to secure the integrity of the protocol and location of the critical future UAV flying base stations and include discussions for future research directions.
