Numerical study on thermal and humid environment in underground powerhouse of pumped storage power station by airflow network modeling

Water condensation and thermal destruction in the powerhouse may cause a harmful effect on the equipment and the safety of workers in the pumped storage power station. To design a sound thermal and humid environment, the ventilation system of the underground powerhouse of a pumped storage power station was simulated using the airflow network model. Besides, the dynamic control of the ventilation system of the powerhouse and the consequent thermal and humid environment were simulated. We applied VENTSIM software to simulate the air flow organization, heat and humidity transport. We put forward optimization suggestions through the simulation to ensure a safe thermal and humid environment. This study implies the necessity of using a network model in the ventilation system design in pumped storage power stations.
