In mobile communication networks, before users can use data services, an end-to-end connection between the User Equipment (UE) and the Data Network (DN) needs to be established, which is referred to as setting up a service channel. For 5G-A and 6G service scenarios, mobile communication networks need to establish more flexible and efficient service channels to meet more diverse service demands. The existing network architecture faces challenges in this regard. This article proposes a network architecture aimed at managing service channels in mobile communication networks, which simplifies the functions of access and mobility management network elements and optimizes the selection method for service channel control plane network elements. This allows for the flexible establishment of the shortest and most optimal service channels, applicable for 5G-A, 6G, and future networks. To realize policy management in the network architecture, a policy control architecture and process are proposed, dividing the existing access and mobility management related policies and session management related policies into visiting policies and home policies, and further exploring the coordination issue between them. An application example of this network architecture and policy control architecture is provided through the vehicle-to-everything (V2X) scenario.
