The propagation characteristics of nuclear electromagnetic pulse (NEMP) in ionosphere is studied by using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The location-varying electron density, collision frequency, and dispersive permittivity of the ionosphere are introduced into the time-domain and frequency-domain FEM. The transmission coefficient, waveform, and time delay of the electromagnetic pulse (EMP) is analyzed. This work may provide theoretical foundation for the space-based nuclear explosion detection.
