A novel technique of pulse shortening through spectral enhancement

초록

For many years, pulse generators used in communications, radar, imaging, and remote-sensing systems have been requesting advancements in short-pulse generation. For that, the primary objective of this paper is to present a novel technique for pulse creation having a short pulse width and high bandwidth. This simple and efficient pulse generation technique uses two non-linear elements (BJTs) driven by two identical Gaussian-shaped pulses. To extend the spectrum of the output pulse, the pulse generator circuit makes use of the mixing effect inherent in transistors. In comparison to each of the identical driving pulses coupled to transistors, the output signal generated has a wider bandwidth and narrower pulse width. This technique can alter the way of bandwidth enhancement studies in radar, imaging systems, and communication systems.
