A Cloud infrastructure allows Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) to leverage on-demand resources from both physical and virtual domains. A typical cloud-based CPS designed for Water Distribution Systems (WDS) is comprised of various devices such as sensors, actuators, logical programming controllers, and grid systems. Due to power constraints and real-time operations of these CPS devices, ensuring secure communication between instruments and the control room is critically important, and thus, authentication is a key factor. The use of lightweight Elliptical Curve Cryptography (ECC) facilitates the authentication of both device and control rooms. To provide authentication and signature verification with minimal computational and communication overhead, a Hybrid Lightweight Attribute-Based Security Scheme is proposed. To determine the most efficient Brainpool curve list, the model is tested with various curve lists. The proposed framework has a computational time of 515.91 ms, with Brainpool256r1 demonstrating the lowest server time and better security with a lightweight model compared to other Brainpool curves.
