Ensuring the security of secret message transmission over the internet is essential in today’s digital world. Significant advancements in Internet technology have made it easier for hackers to access private multimedia data without authorization. Cryptography techniques can be used to protect sensitive multimedia data that is sent over the Internet. Asymmetric and symmetric cryptography are well-known types. However, most asymmetric encryption, like Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA), is computationally complex. Symmetric encryption, such as AES, is susceptible to brute-force attacks since the encrypted information can still be deciphered to locate the original message. To address these issues and achieve the best possible multimedia encryption, AES encryption must be combined with other security techniques. This paper examines the various encryption techniques that have been combined with AES to deal with these multimedia message security and computational cost issues. Papers written in English, published in a peer-reviewed academic journal, and released between 2019 and 2024 met the inclusion criteria. In the end, this study examined 40 relevant papers in total. The study found that combining various security algorithms with AES encryption has drawn more attention and is often used on multimedia data when compared to a single cryptographic technique. Other concerns, such as protecting privacy and security against vulnerabilities like brute force attacks, must also be addressed. For the efficient security of the multimedia text messages system, an improved AES algorithm should be developed to enhance the security and privacy issues of the multimedia message system.
