With the continuous advancement of technology, the risk of cyberattacks has become increasingly prominent. Recent advancements have demonstrated that modern, powerful computers such as quantum computers could potentially break even robust encryption algorithms like RSA. Although achieving this level of computational power currently requires a tremendous amount of time and resources, technological advancements may soon make hacking more feasible. As people become increasingly reliant on technology for daily operations, cyberattacks pose a more significant threat than ever before. The Internet of Things (IoT) is one technology that has rapidly gained popularity, with a growing demand for devices such as personal home cameras, nanny cameras, and other consumer-grade IoT-enabled video surveillance devices. To enhance the security of message transmission in IoT-based smart surveillance systems, we propose a more secure and efficient approach utilizing Zenoh, one of the newest and most performant publish/subscribe message exchange technologies. We have implemented various Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) algorithms, namely CRYSTALS-KYBER and NTRU, to encrypt the data. Following the implementation, we evaluated the performance of each algorithm to determine the most suitable option for IoT implementation.
