초록

The rapid progress in the field of e-health services has become more and more highlighting the importance of information security in the healthcare sector. Healthcare organizations are facing increasing cyber threats, as innovative medical devices and healthcare applications used to treat patients have become attractive targets for cyber attacks. When hacking networks, attackers can disable vital services or encrypt data using ransomware, which leads to interruptions of operations and large payments for their restoration, especially since healthcare services are highly time-dependent. In addition, these attacks may result in serious security risks, such as hacking network-connected devices, causing errors with the distribution of medicines, or changing the functions of medical devices in an unsafe way. Academic research reveals the prevalence of cyber threats in the healthcare sector and how existing vulnerabilities can be exploited. The increase in data collection processes and access points in healthcare systems makes patient data a valuable target for cybercriminals. The collection of patients’ health data from various sources, such as hospital and laboratory records, insurance information, fitness applications, tracking devices, and health portals, complicates data security and increases security vulnerabilities. In this context, implementing an effective cybersecurity strategy in the healthcare sector is a critical requirement to protect the integrity of data and prevent potential breaches. The use of cybersecurity technologies ensures the protection of health data, thus ensuring both patient privacy and the uninterrupted provision of healthcare services. As a result, strengthening cybersecurity in the healthcare sector necessitates the development of defense mechanisms against increasing threats for both institutions and individuals.
