Spear or Shield: Mastering the Art of Gen-AI in Face Recognition

연구 분야: Strategies

초록

This research uses a spear and shield analogy to examine the complex link between Generative AI (GAI) and face recognition systems. GAI can attack recognition systems and defend them. The investigation focuses on diffusion models, a subset of GAI, which can create lifelike synthetic facial imagery to mimic people and bypass biometric systems. GAI helps create more durable training datasets, ensures privacy using synthetic data, and performs responsible vulnerability testing. The study proposes extensive technical, ethical, legal, and societal measures to maximize GAI's benefits and limit exploitation. These include regulatory frameworks covering permissible use cases, algorithmic safeguards, public awareness initiatives, and policy, academic, and business collaboration. As GAI capabilities grow, spear-based threats and shield-based responses must balance for cybersecurity. This article provides vital guidance for GAI's development toward reliable goals that respect individual rights and ethics.
