The Principled Approach (PA) to artificial intelligence (AI) ethics is facing scrutiny due to the significant gap between theory and practice. However, before embracing alternative approaches, it is crucial to understand the inherent difficulties of the PA. By analyzing the two representations involved, it becomes apparent that both representations pose certain problems. The tendency to proliferate representations, often observed in alternative solutions, fails to provide an effective resolution and presents new challenges. Therefore, it remains an open question on how to strengthen the ethical governance of AI more effectively.
