A CPS Cyber Security Situation Assessment Model Against Cyberattacks

Recent power accidents show adversaries can gain the control permission of cyber devices by their security vulnerabilities and then make malicious impacts on power systems’ operation. Thus, the cyber security of cyber power systems (CPS) plays a key role in the systems’ operation. In this article, we investigate a cyber security situation assessment model against cyberattacks based on the exploiting probability of various attack paths in the cyber domain and the physical consequences caused by them. Firstly, the attack paths of cyber systems for substations and generation units are presented. Moreover, we estimate the exploiting probability of attack paths for adversaries with considering the known and zero-day security vulnerability in the cyber devices and the topology of cyber systems. And physical consequences caused by various attack paths are quantified, which is designed by confusing various attack paths and their malicious impacts on power systems. Finally, the simulation verifies the proposed model’s effectiveness.
