초록

Cyber ranges, known for their powerful scenario simulation capabilities, are widely used in penetration testing courses and cyber defense exercises. This study extends the boundaries of cyber range applications by integrating database lab courses into the cyber range environment, providing an innovative approach to experimental learning in fundamental computer science disciplines. Based on Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory (ELT), this design ensures a structured learning process in which students progress through concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation. By designing virtual machine scenarios that encompass diverse database applications, this study addresses several challenges in traditional database education. The results show that lecturers can enhance students’ learning experiences and practical skills by providing tailored experimental scenarios that are suitable for different levels of student ability, enabling experiment rollback functionality, automating software environment management, and incorporating an integrated grading system. In addition, this study highlights the academic potential of cyber ranges beyond their traditional use in cyber defense exercises.
