Artificial intelligence (AI) encompasses the development of computer systems capable of performing human-like functions such as sensing, contemplation, and decision-making. Over the past five years, machine-learning-based AI has developed autonomous decision-making systems that imitate human conduct. Where the criminal justice framework is burdened by an abundance of cases, scarce resources, and concerns about equity and transparency, artificial intelligence (AI) offers hope. AI can completely transform the criminal justice framework in India, transforming areas such as tracking, processing evidence, predicting criminal justice outcomes, and legal research. This paper focuses on how AI might improve the criminal justice framework in India. This chapter examines how AI technologies, like SUPACE, SUVAS, and E-Filling, are used in the Indian legal system. It also makes parallels to other legal systems around the world, with a focus on the US and the UK. The chapter demonstrates that, despite the law being rigid, artificial intelligence manipulation has the power to transform and reform the country’s legal system. Aspects of AI in criminal justice have advantages and disadvantages for India. To truly realise AI’s potential to transform justice, its use must be driven by transparency, accountability, and fairness.
