초록

Suspects in criminal investigations invariably leave digital evidence of their nefarious activities. Digital forensic professionals gather evidence from multiple platforms and present their theories and findings in digital forensic reports. The reports, which are typically not secured, are submitted to the concerned agencies and courts of law, potentially infringing on the privacy of defendants and victims. Specifically, the reports and the accompanying evidence can be viewed by individuals in the investigative and judicial chains without the consent of defendants and victims. This chapter describes a digital forensic framework and implementation that secures forensic reports and supplementary digital evidence using searchable symmetric encryption. The framework restricts unauthorized individuals from accessing the digital evidence. The efficiency of search operations employed on the encrypted digital forensic reports is evaluated.
