Methodology for the Acquisition and Forensic Analysis of a Remote Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS)

This research proposes a “Methodology for the Acquisition and Forensic Analysis of a Remotely Piloted Aerial System (RPAS)”, commonly known as Drone, which allows contributing to those forensic investigations that are carried out on this type of aircraft in different areas. For the fulfillment of this research and according to the proposed objective, we will proceed to identify, study, analyze and evaluate the main regulations and standards on digital and electronic evidence, in addition to the architecture of hardware, electronics, and software of this type of aircraft, where the “DJI Drone range Phantom 4” stands out as a case study, due to its technical characteristics and worldwide recognition for being one of the most used professional drones in the world, thus allowing to propose a methodology of acquisition and forensic analysis specific to this type of technology, based on real background, which can be very useful for future investigations required in the area of computer forensics and that is associated with Drones, considering that this type of evidence can be fundamental in an investigation process.
