Over the past decade, digital cryptocurrency has grown significantly in terms of financial usage and adaptation. Its high monetary value, market cap and popularity have firmly established its market. With the emerging cryptocurrency world, exchanges and applications provide platforms for digital asset trading. This scenario makes it an attractive target for cybercriminal actors. The Hacktivist habitually targets the weakest points of an ecosystem. The weakest point is the endpoint. Endpoints are terminals, computers or mobile devices that allow users to communicate with blockchain systems for access and services. Endpoint exploitation includes security breaches, malicious code injection, human error, cryptojacking etc. Primarily, the attacker targets the endpoint for the wallet control, obtains the keys, resource abuse and cryptocoin theft. This manuscript extensively analysis 28 endpoint breaches from 2011 to 2023. It shows the breach types and patterns used to exploit the endpoint. Based on this, this study provides an overview of the most common attacks, user mistakes, attacker cleverness and lax security that demonstrates that the security measures for exchanges and applications are inadequate. Additionally, we analyse the reasons and entices that drive attackers to steal the cryptocoins. This study could significantly contribute to the literature to formulate a more robust, secure and reliable security model to enhance blockchain usage and adoption.
