In order to optimize intelligent routing in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), this survey investigates the strategic uses of meta-heuristic Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches. Meta-heuristic algorithms, inspired by natural and social behaviors, can address the adaptive and effective difficulties presented by the dynamic and resource-constrained nature of WSNs. The initial part of the review talks about basic routing protocols in WSNs and points out their flaws. This makes way for the use of meta-heuristic AI apps. We present a thorough analysis of notable meta-heuristic algorithms, such as particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithms, and ant colony optimization, emphasizing their effectiveness in tackling essential optimization goals in wireless sensor networks, such as energy efficiency, prolonging network lifespan, and scalability. The survey explores the fusion of meta-heuristic intelligence with AI-powered routing strategies. This integration uses advanced machine learning methods, like deep learning and reinforcement learning, to give wireless sensor networks the ability to adapt and change as environmental conditions change. This makes routing more efficient and flexible. In addition, the survey looks at real-life examples and applications that show how strategic meta-heuristic AI can help make better routing decisions in wireless sensor networks. The findings from these applications reveal the tangible effects of intelligent routing optimization, highlighting the possibilities for progress across various fields like IoT, environmental monitoring, and smart infrastructure. At the end of the survey, there is a discussion about current problems and possible solutions for the future. This shows how important it is to keep researching strategic meta-heuristic AI applications to make intelligent routing in wireless sensor networks work better and be more reliable.
