SDN Virtualization for Seamless Integration of PON Systems in Industry 4.0 TSN

초록

Industry 4.0 requires efficient, automated, and interconnected production environments supported by robust industrial networks for real-time communication and control. Integrating XG-PON with IEEE TSN poses significant challenges due to standard gaps. This paper introduces a novel virtualized SDN layer enabling XG-PON systems to function as IEEE TSN bridges. The SDN layer manages synchronization (IEEE 1588), traffic (IEEE 802.1Qbv/bu), and network orchestration through virtualized controllers. By extending existing standards (ETSI F5G, ITU-T G.sup.PON) and addressing interoperability issues, we ensure seamless XG-PON integration within IEEE TSN networks, fostering innovation and efficiency in Industry 4.0 applications through dynamic configuration, improved performance, reduced vendor lock-in, and faster feature adoption.
