These days, almost all mobile communications occur in the sub-3 GHz band, which is now overcrowded to handle the expected rise in mobile data traffic in the future. In order to construct the next generation of cellular networks of communications employing the millimeter frequency of the millimeter waves bands of 28 GHz and 39 GHz, a new paradigm has therefore been researched. The Board of Commissioners on Federal Communications allocated 3.85 GHz authorized spectrum in many millimeter-wave channels in 2016 to aid in the deployment of 5G. This article discusses the prospects and state of the art in millimeter wave semiconductor technology, as well as some particular difficulties that have been encountered. The importance of inert electronics and its engineering challenges, modeling-related difficulties in CMOS technology, propagating-related issues of millimeter-wave frequencies, and the effects of contemporary VLSI technologies on millimeter-wave circuit design are all presented in a methodical manner in this work. The study employs a comprehensive strategy to address almost all of the factors that need to be considered when designing semiconductor circuits that allow applications that use 5G at millimeter-wave frequencies.
