The advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart grids has placed significant strain on communication networks based on single-channel access methods, such as power line communication (PLC) and wireless communication. These networks are unable to meet the demands of distribution systems. The integration of communication between power lines and wireless channels can yield complementary advantages and enhance the performance of communication networks. In light of the discrepancies between PLC and wireless communication with regard to transmission medium, data rate, and interference resistance, this paper puts forth a dual-mode integrated communication method that fuses power line carrier and wireless communication. At the physical layer, the employment of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation technology facilitates the achievement of signal diversity processing in both the power line carrier communication channel and the wireless communication channel, thereby ensuring the transmission of signals over both channels. At the media access control (MAC) layer, a p-persistent CSMA algorithm is proposed as a means of selecting the channel for signal transmission. This is intended to reduce the probability of collisions through the use of backoff mechanisms, thereby improving channel utilisation. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits competitive performance in terms of throughput, delay, and other metrics.
