An underwater optical wireless communication (UOWC) using a blue light source modulated by NRZ-OOK signal with 1.25-Gbps data rate is studied. The transmission channel was evaluated on artificial seawater, temperature, and turbulence factors. A green laser and blue laser performance were compared in the tap water and seawater. A temperature of 40 °C and 10 °C was used to evaluate the UOWC system. The turbulence has an impact on the signal performance. This system can achieve a 6 m distance with a bit error rate performance of 10−8.
