Attack Vectors and Susceptibilities of the Modbus in TCP/IP Model

초록

The paper represents penetration testing Industrial Control Systems (ICS), and its operational working along with systems, that uses the Modbus TCP/IP Protocol and PROFINET Protocol. Modbus has many vulnerabilities that are explained in this paper and an analytical correlation on how these susceptibilities can be exploited through specific attacks. Further, a comparison on alternative protocols, i.e., PROFINET, is provided to show the fortes and flaws of using both of these protocols in ICSs. The paper reflects that Modbus is obsolete and far carry out risk in ICSs without unambiguously configured extenuations put in place. Further, the paper reflects research on this technology and presents in a systematic way to understand the knowledge in a new area of cyber security.
