A Blockchain-Based Performance Monitoring Scheme for Network Function Virtualization in Space- Aerial- Terrestrial Integrated Networks

Space-Aerial- Terrestrial Integrated Networks have been applied worldwide in weather forecasting, disaster pre-paredness, and education in recent years. Since the SATIN is too complicated to manage, Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) has been proposed to enable the implementation of traditional telecommunications functions through software on standard hardware devices. However, NFV involved new challenges and vulnerabilities, particularly in the virtualization layer. It becomes a potential target for attacks and causes of single-point failure for SATIN. In this article, blockchain is applied to monitor the per-formance of the Network Functions in SATINs because of its natural characteristics of preventing single-point failure. More concreteness, we first design an NFV simulation system and build potential attack models. Then we propose a blockchain-based performance monitoring scheme for network functions in SATIN. Simulation experiments analyze the performance and efficiency of the proposed scheme.
