Dual-Band Logarithmic Antenna Array for 5G Technology and Satellite Communications

This paper proposes the design, simulation and implementation of a 3 1 linear log-periodic antenna array (LPDA), operating at 5G frequencies (26.40 GHz and 28.25 GHz) and also in the Ku-band for satellite communications (12–18 GHz). In order to improve its characteristics, the array is modelled, consisting of identical antennas, oriented in the x-axis and in the y-axis. The prototype antenna is derived from the base scheme of a log-periodic antenna. By tripling this antenna twice on the x-axis and once on the y-axis, the bandwidth is improved. The array is simulated using ANSYS HFSS software. Consequently, an analysis of the directivity, radiation pattern and gain of the simulated antenna for 5 GHz was carried out, achieving that it operates at frequencies of 26.40 GHz and 28.25 GHz, with a bandwidth of 1 GHz with −22.31 dB loss and 650 with −42.00 dB MHz respectively. In addition, the demonstration of a multiband antenna is carried out through a comparative analysis of the reflection coefficient (S11) of the simulated antenna with respect to the antenna implemented in a frequency range of satellite communications (15 GHz to 20 GHz), through the vector network analyser equipment “KEYSIGHT E5071C ENA Series Network Analyzer” Escuela Superior Politecnica de Chimborazo (ESPOCH) and Matlab software.
