Software Defined Network (SDN) marks a significant shift from conventional networking by decoupling the control plane from the data plane within the network infrastructure. This decoupling requires a protocol to facilitate communication between these two planes. OpenFlow, being open source, offers multiple controller options, making the choice of an appropriate controller pivotal for achieving optimal network performance. This research examines the Quality of Service (QoS) in a tree topology by comparing two distinct controllers, Ryu and Pox, within an SDN setup utilizing the Mininet emulator. The study involves implementing and testing both controllers to assess network performance based on QoS parameters including throughput, packet loss, and delay. Data collection and analysis were conducted using the Wireshark tool, with the Tiphon standard serving as the benchmark for determining indices and categories. The findings reveal that the Pox controller achieves higher throughput compared to the Ryu controller, whereas Ryu demonstrates superior performance concerning delay. The packet loss metrics were found to be relatively similar between the two controllers. This research offers insights for selecting controllers to enhance network performance in SDN environments by considering essential QoS parameters.
